Biography

I have a combined work experience of around 26 years in industry and academia. I am a BE (Electronics & Telecommunication Engg) top ranker from Bombay University. I have worked in various capacities in Wipro, starting from customer support roles in Mumbai to hands-on software development to software Project lead in Bengaluru working with multiple teams and clients. This part of my career gave me extensive exposure to interfacing with clients, managing people in service roles and project teams, and international managers. It also exposed me to global work ethics and cultural differences in global teams.
After a successful stint in the software and hardware domain, I completed my MBA (PGSEM) from IIM Bangalore, while at Wipro, and then moved on to the function of Knowledge Management. I was instrumental in bringing in fresh ideas to evangelise KM in the sector assigned to me. During this functional role the thirst of asking questions and building research ideas grew on me and I decided to take the biggest decision of my life – to leave a successful and well paying job in the industry and become a full-time PhD (Fellow) student in OB&HRM at IIM Bangalore. This part of my career instilled a great desire to ask the right questions, to understand problems and to try and solve them through research. “Why humans behave the way they do” became a large part of my research agenda
After earning my PhD, I took on an academic avatar with a passion to continue on my research dreams and teach future leaders on the way. I joined IIM Udaipur in the OB&HRM area and successfully conducted my research through a number of international collaborations with area experts such as Prof Alex Haslam, Prof Rolf van Dick, Prof Nik Steffens, Prof Prithviraj Chattopadhyay, and Prof Jing Zhu. I also taught courses on micro and macro organizational behaviour to multiple batches of the MBA there. I also contributed in the institution building activities for the fledgling school. My paper on Newcomer Identification got published in June, 2017 in the Academy of Management Journal, a highly respected and coveted management journal with very high rejection rates! It is estimated (not verified) that there would probably be only a handful (if at all) researchers based in India to claim a publication in this journal. Continuing with this research passion, I have multiple ongoing projects in the area of Social Identity, Leadership and Newcomer Exclusion.
Since April 2018, I am with TAPMI in the HR & OB area. My mandate here is to continue to build on my research pursuits, contribute to institution building and the PGDM (HRM) program, as well as continue to develop great future leaders and researchers. I was the first chairperson of TAPMI’s PGDM (HRM) program in 2018. The program was set up with collaboration with SHRM for their professional global certification.
My passion (other than asking questions and seeking answers) is photography – using just my phone – of various natural and architectural wonders of the world and sharing them on my various social media accounts. I am also keen on technology – always trying out new apps and gizmos, when possible. I also love to read books, and watch movies/series related to sci-fi, crime and mystery. I survive because of my wife and two sons!
